Learning How To Fly A Light Sport Aircraft by James David
A Light Sport aircraft is a small plane that is very easy to fly. This plane should meet the specific regulations that are set by the National aviation authority which has restrictions in weight and performance of the plane. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority classify this kind of plane to be heavier that air but lighter than aircraft. It should only contain a maximum stall speed of 45 knots and a maximum of two seats. The maximum speed of the plane should only reach 138mph. its maximum takeoff weight should only be 560kg or below.
Owning this type of aircraft is also really easy and very affordable. Its cost can be just similar to a new car. Becoming a pilot for this kind of plane is also very simple. This is considered as a good beginner’s plane. It is important that you already have a license for you to be able to fly this plane. Getting a license requires several factors; one is the age of the applicant. You will have to be at least 16 to be able to start your training and 17 to be able to take the test. You should understand English language both in written and spoken. You also need to undergo a medical exam to get a medical certification similar to the test you have in your driver’s license or you can also use this certification. And lastly you need to pass that exam given for you to have the license.
There are a lot of small plane that are considered to be a LSA. There are certain guidelines that the FAA follows to classify a LSA and a regular aircraft. It should be micro or ultra light to be able to gain the classification of being a LSA. There is simply a lot of LSA that was produced from different manufacturer on different timeline. The large number of design is due to the high demand of this type of plane also. Manufacturer will only create products that their client would buy.
In buying one LSA the buyer must remember to always check if the unit complies with the ASTM International standards for flight safety. For a brand new unit the buyer needs to prepare around $40,000 but for a good second hand there are some that can be bought for $20,000 or less. You can always talk with the owner and ask if they can lower down their price if it’s too high for you.
These Light Sport aircraft should be the perfect plane for those who just recently acquired their license for flying. It can be the perfect first plane of a beginner pilot. Many experts would also recommend this for first time buyers.
